A Brief History of Sussex

History of Sussex

Sussex is my home. I love it here, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in England. For that reason I thought I would share a little bit with you.

Sussex has it's own anthem

Sussex has it's own (un-offical) anthem called 'Sussex by the Sea' and was composed in 1907 by William Ward-Higgs. (His name is a bit of a mouthful!)

Sussex has it's own celebration day

Sussex has it's own day, 'Sussex day' which is celebrated on the 16th of June each year. It used to coincide with the feast day of St. Richard of Chichester (The patron saint of Sussex).

Tips For New Web Designers

I thought I would share a few things that have helped me in the past when designing a website. Although in the title I write that these tips are for new web designers, they still ring true at any stage of a designer's career.

Good Website Navigation:

Try to stick to fluid web site navigation. You should make sure each and every product category is labelled clearly and is easy to find amongst the clutter.

Use a tagline (strap) for you site

A tagline will help your website's visitors understand what your mission objectives are and what the site is useful for. It also looks professional and doesn't take long at all to implement.

Implement a sitemap into your website

Search engine's love sitemaps and is outstanding for SEO purposes because it gives the search robots more links to crawl to. In other words, it helps your site get indexed quicker and deeper. As well as helping the search engine robots do their job more effectively, it is also good for human navigation too as it gives an at a glance look at the structure of your site.

Try to have meaningful content

First of all, from an SEO perspective, having useful and unique content is the one sure fire way to achieve a good ranking for you or your web design clients. Secondly, a lot of Internet surfers are looking for specific, useful information. If your website doesn't have that information, or it's not presented well enough, then your bounce rate just went up slightly....
